- Unsolved Mystery?!?
- Posted by Danny on January 19th, 2004
I am running Win2k server SP4 with Exchange 2000 SP3 and
have noticed some strange files being added to the 'C'
drive. The file extensions are appearing
as .2,.3,.4,.5,.6,.7,.8
Most have a name of something like S150.2 or S3K.2, etc.
I have searched high and low on the net to determine what
these files are or why they are appearing on this one
server only. They seem to be adding up, and although they
are not large files, I could use the extra space if I
removed them. I am just not sure if I should.
All Anti-virus/Trojan/Port Scanning software isn't
pointing anything out as suspicious.
Any assistance on determing what these files are and if
they are safe to remove would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Danny

Have you tried to open them with Notepad to see if there are any clues? Even
if you just see jibberish, you should scroll through and see if there are
any text strings that might indicate what is generating these files. HTH.
