The thread you refer to appears in my newsreader right now. There's your
original post, DP's reply, your reply explaining his suggestion didn't
work, and his reply to that - to which you haven't responded.
If that thread is missing from your reader, there's something funny
about your reader or maybe your ISP. You might check your settings.
In case you can't figure out what's wrong, DP's reply to your last post
was:
Try deleting and recreating the key "VirtualDeviceDrivers"

I do not think that anything is wrong with the OP's newsreader.
I have had numerous posts disappear under my very eyes
during the past two weeks, but only when using the msnews
server. Posts on other newsservers stay on as long as
specified in the reader setup. Furthermore, there are posts
from other people reporting similar problems.
I suspect this is related to a timeout issue at the Microsoft end.

Peg - you may be absolutely right. There is some v. strange behavior
using these NGs over the past week or so - my Netscape 7 reader download
time has spiked up, # unreads has fluctuated up & down wildly, and I'm
even getting "article expired" msgs on some posts only an hour or 2 old.
I've figured there's some scrambling going on at the MS server site,
perhaps triggered by the recent spam & spurious update problems. I
didn't consider this in my response cuz I found those older posts I
cited, but you make a very good point; perhaps different
moments-of-access or different newsreader behaviors account for oddities.
(I've had a post reported as expired, and 10 minutes later had it
viewable in normal fashion. The Netscape reader appears not to have a
setting that conceals posts that have been read, but if it did I'd
probably be plagued by vanishing posts too.)
