Ever since I ran the recovery console fast repair for a
w2kp sp4 install, the os restarts automatically at the
Windows 2000 Professional splash screen.
Going into F8 for Safe Mode or Restore Last Good Config
still reboots automatically.
Any ideas??

W2K automatically reboots when it encounters an error (usually a BSOD). I have suffered this a lot with W2K SP4 and still haven't resolved it

Sometimes scanning the drive for errors corrects this problem, sometimes not. If not the only course of action I have found is to re-image (Ghost) or re-install Windows. In order that you can see what is causing the reboot I suggest that when you have the machine working again, turn off the auomatic reboot option. Right-click 'My Computer' / Properties / Advanced / Startup and Recovery / Uncheck 'Automatically Reboot'

dcdon...do i run this sfc /scannow from the recovery
console protected dos prompt? is this a ms command?

Frank...if I can get into some kind of desktop, then I
will uncheck the automatically reboot setting to see if
there is a STOP error that is causing this reboot.
Everything was fine before reinstalling sp4....guess I
gotta shut off the pc until sp5 comes out!
Could I uninstall sp4 if I can get to a desktop to see if
that fixes the problem?

You can stop the auto reboot by booting into Safe Mode and going to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> Startup and Recovery -> Uncheck "Automatically Reboot"

Then reboot to the BSOD, and post it here for specific.

To run SFC /SCANNOW, you can do this through Safe Mode in a Command Prompt or through the Recovery Console

You may want to do a Repair Installation. To do this you need your ERD and a Full Backup. Or you can try it through the Recovery Console, if you don't have an ERD and a Backup ( but read the help files. This is a shot in the dark). You also can do an Inplace Upgrade. This is tad amount to reinstalling the OS and leaving your data and settings in tact. If you do this, there will be no guarantee that it will remove infections or maladies in your User Profile(s). You will need to redo Your SP(?) and reinstall I.E.6SP1 and also any Hotpatches.

To get a complete print out of what you have now (hardware and software), go to www.Belarc.com and download the free app. and run it once and print that out. It will also print out your CD Key (good to keep).
