What's the right way to unplug...?
Posted by Kenneth on August 25th, 2003

Howdy,

I use two external USB hard disks.

What is the correct way to "unplug" them?

No matter what I try, Windows 2000 seems unhappy. Nothing serious, but
I do get the dialog telling me that I have unplugged a device
improperly. I then tried disabling the disks in Device Manager first,
but that produces the same dialog...

Thanks for the technique,

it's the way you're suppose to remove devices .. you stop them through the
"Removable Devices" .. icon on your taksbar. This way windows takes care of
all the connections and IRQs and never complains

Howdy,

I will experiment, but, to now, that icon appears only after I have
removed the drive...

you can also stop devices in control panel if there's no
icon on your task bar. Regards,
