- Windows Media Player Hijacked? - please help!
- Posted by on March 7th, 2004
I think I downloaded some kind of spyware/adware etc
because now windowmediaplayer (6.5) is trying to access
the internet everytime I start windows and continuosly
tries to do so. The site it's trying to access (that i've
denied) is smtp.hotpop.com. Being paranoid about
viruses/spyware/adware/etc, I've tried to turn off
windowmediaplayer from msconfig and deleted it as a start-
up option using a another program BUT it keeps on
reappearing when I restart windows. How do I fix it so
that it stops reappearing?
I have Norton AV and it didn't give an alert. I ran spybot
and adaware and cleaned up all problematic issues. I'm not
sure what to do next. Thank-you kindly.
