Winzip Icons cover all non Default Desktop Icons
Posted by Rich on December 13th, 2003

On my desktop, every Icon that is not Windows Default has
a Winzip Icon placed over the original Icon. During
Startup, the original Icons are visible, during the
last 'redraw' of the Desktop, the Winzip Icons are placed
over the existing non default ones. If I make a new
Shortcut, the Winzip Icon is placed over the Icon I
choose. When deleting a Shortcut Icon, the Winzip Icon is
shown over the original Icon in the Recycle Bin. The Boys
in IT have tried to correct this with no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks

Maybe it's a corrupted icon cache folder. Try resizing the desktop icons
from 31 pixels to 32 pixels or whatever the equivalent is on your system. Do
it from Display properties / Appearance tab / Item list (look for icon
item).

You can also locate the ShellIconCache file and delete it (its a hidden file
in %systemroot%). It will be recreated on next bootup.

That seems to be it! SaltPeter is smarter than our entire
