can't join domain
Posted by Alex on January 5th, 2004

I updated our NT40 PDC to 2003 DC. Now installing second
W2003 member server. Checked using nslookup for existance
of DC and GC in the domain everything looks fine. Trying
to join existing domain say companyname.com.au --> always
unsucsesfull saying system can find domain controller in
the domain, but suggesting to check IP address of DC in
DNS or saying DC is unavailable. IP address in DNS is
correct. What else can i check. DCDIAG showing no
problems?

Regards,
Alex

ip address in DNS might be correct, but do you use correct DNS server when
adding your server to domain? It should point to your DC's DNS, as always,
or to other DNS server (if you host your DNS for active directory on other
server) which can resolve queries for resource records in _msdcs and other
ad-related DNS zones.
