- Domain and Forest function level question
- Posted by John on November 19th, 2003
Currently we are at Domain function level = Windows 2000
mixed and Forest function level = Windows 2000.
I thought that the level you used went along with the
servers and workstations included on the network. In
reading the information again I think I may have mis-
understood this and that the workstations and member
servers do not enter in to the level that can be set.
We have a WindowsNT 4 server, running SQL 7, that is not a
domain controller. The server is not yet a member of the
domain but of the workgroup by the same name. We were
think about adding it to the domain as a member server.
We also have a couple Windows2KPros left on the the
network.
We need some of the additional function we get by raising
the level.
Question:
Can we raise the function levels up to Windows 2003 server
and still join the NT4 server to the domain as a member
server.
Is there a problem with the Win2K Pro stations joining
under the higher level.
Thanks

Raising Functional Levels does not affect client or member servers,
only domain controllers..
