Domain Migration
Posted by Julie on February 20th, 2004

I am creating a new domain(AD2) to eventually replace the
current one(AD1). Users on AD1 are using roaming
profiles. I would like to transfer the profiles, AD, and
not have to rejoin them to domain (in the time being).

My question is:

1. If I create a trust relationship with AD1 and AD2, will
I have to manually add workstations to the new AD2
domain? Or will the users have an option to login into
AD2 from the login screen?

2. When I copy the user's roaming profiles to AD2, how can
I reset the permissions to their new AD2 username, as
their directories are currently setup for AD1?

3. Is it worth copying over AD1's AD to AD2 if I am going
to slightly change the tree structure but keep the same
username?

4. Is there a script or application which will allow
workstations on AD1 to join the AD2 domain without
physically being at the machine?

Active Directory Migration Tool v.2.0 helps you with all there's tasks.

1) Se Computer Migration in ADMT
2) ADMT also migrate user profiles
3) Yes you can copy them into one singel OU if you want and then
re-structure the Active Directory and place the account after the new
structure.
4) ADMT
