dsquery inactive - Please Help
Posted by Alex on March 5th, 2004

Hi,

We have a Windows Server 2003 AD domain and we are looking for a way to
clean up inactive computer accounts. I noticed I can use dsquery with the
inactive parameter to list out inactive computer accounts and pipe them to
dsrm.

However, I am not sure how dsquery determine inactive computer accounts and
hope that someone can enlighten me.

Here are a few things that I have doubts in.

If I create dummy computer accounts (for some tracking purpose) will these
accounts be considered as inactive if it was created more than the number of
weeks that I specified in the inactive query?

Computers at remote site but have computer accounts in the domain. User
logon using cache credential and use VPN to connect back to office. Will
thses computer be considered as active?

Thanks a lot,
Alex
