- Help on permission
- Posted by mike on February 27th, 2004
I know this is not the right place to post this but I
cant get any responds else where.
Problem: I have shared a directory and given the user
full control to the directory but when I tried to create
a file from an XP workstation, it gives me an access
denied error message. Tried giving the user administrator
rights as well but to no avail. When i log on at the
server locally with the same user name, I could create
new files in that directory. Any idea? I had no problem
on the W2K server previously. Please help
Thank you
mike

When you log in locally, you are very probably just accessing the
"directory" by simply opening Windows Explorer and navigating to the folder,
and NOT accessing the "share" by doing \\computername\sharename.
If the above is correct, then you have probably been messing only with the
NTFS (security) permission and you have forgotten to adjust the Share
"Sharing" permission. Try adjust the Share permission and see if that helps.
