- How to Join an ADAM instance ?
- Posted by WJ on November 21st, 2003
AD Experts,
How can I join a Windows XP Professional to a server (w2k3) that host ADAM.
1. The ADAM server does not have DNS installed (does not need 1)
2. The name server (adam) is: Server01:389
3. The ADAM server is a standalone server.
4. I would like WinXP to interactively logon to ADAM with a domain name
drop-down list that list all the ADAM servers available within the same
network.
TIA
John

ADAM can not be used for Windows authentication. ADAM users only make sense
inside ADAM instance. Windows has no clue about them. ADAM does not have
domains, so you can not join a machine to ADAM.
What you describe below is an AD scenario. Make your server a DC (you will
need DNS), and join the XP machine to the domain.

Thanks Dmitri. I kept forgetting that it is for Applications use only.
