Lost Global Catalog

Please Help!!
I installed Windows 2000 Advanced Server in our company. I then installed a
BDC. After receiving messages in the Event Viewer that suggested that the
Global Catalog should not be on the PDC with some other service, I decided
to move the Global Catalog to the BDC. Unfortunately I didn't create a
Global Catalog on the BDC first. Now no one can log onto the domain. I don't
see any references to the global catalog in DNS, and the Directory does not
show anything. How can I restore the global catalog. Is there any scripting
or do I have to reinstall the AD? The entire company is down. Everyone must
map to the server as the administrator to use any resources. Help!

I've read comments on this topic from other members of this NG in past
posts.

Just enable your remaining DC as a GC server, give it time to build the GC
(a restart has been advised in other posts). It doesn't need an existing GC
to replicate off.

MG just a couple of points.

There is no concept of a BDC in Windows Active Directory - all DCs are read
write masters of the directory

The only time you need worry about a server having a GC role is if it is
also holding the Infrastructure operations master role, in a multi domain
forest where not all DCs are GCs.

You can make any DC a GC also in your forest at anytime by just going into
the Active Directory Sites and Trusts. Find the site your server is in you
want to make a GC and then expand the Servers node and then look at the
properties of the NTDS Settings object - there is a check box to enable that
server as a GC.
