- mixed mode/native mode question.
- Posted by sam on December 22nd, 2003
I have a AD domain currently running in mixed mode, containing 2
(win2k) DCs and a (NT4) BDC. Also, my network contains several win2k
servers, a NT4 server, and a combination of 98/win2k/XP desktop PCs.
I intend to take the BDC permanently off line and was wondering if I
could switch to native mode (after getting rid of the BDC) despite
still having an Nt4 server on my domain.
Thanks for any help

You can go Native mode as long as you do not have any
PDC's or BDC's(logon verification servers). You can still
have NT4 standalone servers with no problems. One thing I
would like to caution you on is, make sure that you look
into this carefully, the only way to revert back to mixed
mode is to start from scratch and redo all of your
servers.

Other than meaning I cant have any Windows NT4 DCs, why the caution
about the change over? I have read windows 98 Clients need software to
allow them to log on to AD but apart from that what should I expect it
to affect? Software? Printers? Shares?
Thanks fo the help.
