- Multiple Users Using 1 Profile?
- Posted by Ben Blackmore on March 4th, 2004
Hi,
I'm having a little bit of a problem trying to get multiple users to use a
single profile.
I want user jdoe & jbloggs to have the profile in
\\server\profiles\wages.man however after creating the profile, and setting
the path in the users property profile page, I tried to log in and get the
following error
"This security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object."
After looking at microsoft support it says to
'uncheck the "Grant the user exclusive rights to my documents" checkbox on
the settings page of the Folder Redirection dialog'
However I can't find this dialog, and think its talking more about
redirecting the users 'my documents' folder rather than users profiles!
Can anyone help?
Cheers
Ben

Generally a bad idea (really) unless you make the profile mandatory
but that seems to be what you intend.
The file MUST be named NTUSER.man (not wages) for NT-class
machines(, and user.man for 9x class machines.)
Users must have at least READ on the SHARE.
and at least READ on the files within that share.
The path you set (based on the above) should be:
\\Server\Profiles
Do not include the file name (even after you correctly rename it.)

Hi,
Yes it is mandatory, and the path \\server\profiles\wages.man is a
directory, in that directory is NTUSER.man, all users have read & execute,
but not write or modify.
