Problem with trust after rename domain
Posted by Ist67 on December 3rd, 2003

Hi,
We've a problem after the renaming of domain name in
windows 2003, we changed it from odlname.lan to
newname.lan follow the instruction of the Microsoft
documentation and all is finished in good way.
All the procedure finished with correct response, after
the rename we tried to trust again another domain, windows
2000 with active directory, that was trusted before but no
way to do it.
After the execute of trust wizard the message of an error
is been:
<A device attached to the system is not functioning>

The parameters of the trust are:
This domain: newname.lan
Specified domain: xxxxxxx.prv
Direction: Incoming: Users in the local domain can
authenticate in the specified domain.
Trust type: External
Transitive: No
Outgoing trust authentication level: Domain-wide
authentication.
Sides of trust: Create the trust for this domain only.

What kind of problem could be?
We haven't found no specification on Microsoft
documentation about problem like this.
The parameters of ours server are:
2 Servers with windows 2003, PDC (srvad1) & BDC (srvad2)
Old name: srvad1.oldname.lan srvad2.oldname.lan
Old Domain name: oldname.lan
New Domain name: newname.lan
New Server name: srvad1.oldname.lan srvad2.oldname.lan
Is it correct that the server conserve the FQDN that was
on machine before the renaming procedure?

Thanks
