Replication Schedule - Ideas
Posted by Glen on March 1st, 2004

I have headquarters in one city and two branch offices in
other cities connected via T1. IT department supports
different companies divided into different OUs. I am
looking for ideas for setting up replication schedules. Do
I need a bridgehead server? I dont need frequent
replication so long as i can force replication at any
time. Thanks in advance. FYI: Branch offices use W2K3.

I am aware of this doc. I am not looking for "how-to" so
much as other administrators experiences with similar set
ups. Things to look out for or things to consider. ..but
thanks for replying.

Glen, T1 should be fine for the default replication schedule. Make sure RID
and PDC FMSO roles are in same site as Exchange Server if there exist some
one.

Thanks, Chris. I do have an e2k3 server and it is in the
same site as the FSMO role holders. Answer me this.

I have 3 sites. Headquarters, Site1, Site2. Should I
manually set up the NTDS settings?

Currently:
sites:
HQ: 2 DC servers + E2K3
site1: 1 DC server
site2: 1 DC server

HQ site list 2 servers with server1 having 1 server thats
not automatically generatored and server2 list 3 other
servers two <automatically generated> (1 from site1 and
the other from site2) and the third not auto.

site1 server lists 3 other <automatically generated>
server. 2 from HQ and 1 from site2

site2 server lists only 1 <automatically generated> server
and its from site1.

Does this look right? If not should i manually create the
servers?

KDC Service creates the replication connections for you, it actually define
the best replication topology for you. There is no reason to change the
replication topology manfully if you no problems are reported in the
Directory Service Log in the event viewer at the particular Domain
Controllers.

Make sure you have define subnets for each site and use them for computers
and servers as well domain controllers within the particular site.

The Guide below are good to understand Sites and Services.
