server licensing - 2003 server looking for old/dead/gone server
Posted by hakalugi on January 6th, 2004

per this thread: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...3DN%26tab%3Dwg
Vera Noest was kind enough to point me in right direction to have our
2003 TS server be it's own licensing server (it was looking for a
long-lost 2000 AD box)

This 2003 box was built using "Windows 2003 Evaluation copy build
3790" we've since purchase our eOpen license for this box but are
unable to enter it. Just as above, when entering:
start->programs->admin programs->licesing the licensing dialog box
comes back with: "The license logging service is not running on <dead
server's name>.domain, or <deadserver's name>.domain is not
accessible"

i've searched the ms KBase for overriding the licensing server but all
results point to the overriding of the TS licensing which we've
already done... do you know the registy key to change/add the
reference to 'itself' ?? (in 2k and 2k3 servers?)

Have you started the license logging service on the 2003 server. By default
is it set to disabled

Hi,

Yes, its running and in "automatic" start-mode.

In the previous post reference (in making the TS licensing reference
'itself' for the TS licenses instead of the old/dead/gone server) per
the MS KB article above, which worked, i ended up modifying:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\TermService\Parameters
*adding: \LicenseServers\<TS-machinename>

For the current issue, I can browse to the following registry path:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\LicenseService\Parameters

do you know if I should modify similarly? (ie: adding:
\LicenseServers\<TS-machinename>)

or any other ideas?

1. Open "Active Directory Sites and Services".

2. Click the site on which the server is located.

3. In the details pane, click "License Site Settings".

4. On the "Action" menu, click "Properties".

5. Under "Licensing Computer", select a different site license server,
and then click "Change".

any ideas?

Although licensing info is set to replicate every 6 hours. Upon
rebooting after last nights security updates, all works.

Now, if I could just find a way to edit the misspelled server name
that has the DC CALs - the properly spelled name thinks it's got 140
'illegal' connections, and the misspelled server (which is
'unavailable') has 0 of 200 users/license connections.

Argh, adopting a system.
