- There is no PDC in server manager and NT4.0 W/s can not join to the domain.

Hi all,
Some how I don't see a PDC in my NT4.0 BDC 's server manager.
My W2k mixed mode domain has 1 NT4.0 BDC server.
When I try to join my NT4.0 Workstation to the domain, it complains that it
Can not connect to Primary domain controler and the W/s can not be joined.
Is their anyone can help me about this?
Do I have to promote a BDC to PDC using SERver manager or is there any way
to make one of the w2k DCs to a PDC for pre2000 computers?
Thanks advance.

NO!!! there is no PDC in 2000, your 2000 DC is the one in charge but needs
DNS to function. Once you set that up properly then you will have better
luck. Read my DNS primer in the download section of mcse2000.com

Thanks for your help!!. Actually,
I upgraded my NT40 PDC and NT40BDC to w2kDCs. Also I left 1 NT40BDC as is
so I have Mixed mode AD.
As total, on my parent domain there are 2 native w2k DCs
and on Child domain 2 w2kDCs and 1 NT40BDC
My DCs and NT40BDC were ok until today but one of my NT40 W/S couldn't join
to my domain and complained it can not find Primary domain.
So I opened Server manager on my NT40 BDC and I found that there was no
PDC in my child domain's server list while I could see a PDC on my parent
Domain's server list.
Which means One of the w2kDc were shown as a PDC in my parent domain.
Do you think one of the child domain's w2k DC need to be shown as PDC in my
NT40 Server Manager like in my parent domain?
The NT40 W/S can join to parent domain with no problem but not to Child
domain.
Sorry for the long story. I just tried...
Thanks.

It's hard to help you b/c all of your verbage is incorrect. Your use of
native, BDCs, child/parent domains. 2000 is totally different from NT4.
You have to have DNS setup correctly first, that is the main problem. Read
my paper for help there. You have a mixed, not native network if you have a
BDC. Why do you have child domains and not 1 domain?

Sorry for that..
Yes Mixed mode on child domain. The NT40 W/S is going to be joined to child
domain.
The DNS has worked fine until now but I am not sure if the DNS is causing
the problem now.
The reason we have parent domain is that our head office will be relocated
at remote site and the parent domain will be moved as well.
Still I wonder that there should be a PDC in my NT40 server's server
manager screen like I can see a PDC in my Parent domain.

your problem is and will continue to beDNS. Also, you mention native in the
parent and mixed in the child....that can't be the whole forest it either
mixed or native.
