- Trouble connecting to a 2003 domain
- Posted by Jake Rich on January 5th, 2004
We just installed a Windows 2003 server and domain. Our XP Pro boxes offer
the domain as an option when the user tries to logon, but after they supply
their username and password, an error occurs stating that the domain is not
available. The server is up and running, and I can view the domain in the
network browser. We are still able to log onto our old domain, if we select
it
from the list. Help!

Mae sure the DNS client is configured to use the same dns server as
the new server and that all SRC records exists on that dns server

I was getting same problems sometimes (even if DNS was configured
correctly). So my solution was:
1. Unjoin workstation from domain (just make it memebr of workgroup) and
restart it.
2. Join workstation to domain

I know that this sound stupid, but one of the networks techs at my work did
this. on the domain controller he turned off file and print sharring
because we were not using it as a file or print server. This gave similar
symptoms that you are explaning. Just my two cents
