- win 98 login issues...
- Posted by Swifty_SySoP on January 5th, 2004
I have a windows 98 client machine running under a W2k3 server with
AD. When I login on the client, everything works properly, except I
can not find the home directory, (It's mapped automatically on a XP
client as the G:\ drive), nor view anything on the network (which I
can see a mapped directory normally on a XP client). I have installed
the DSClient (AD client extensions) for Windows 98 from a Windows 2000
Server CD . On the server the share is named File$... so it looks
like this:
\\bluffton-1\File$\username
the share is published in AD as:
File$
Am I missing something? Or does this look correct?

This will work only for W2K+ clients.
For downlevel clients you have to create logon script with
net use g: \\bluffton-1\File$
(or just put this in Startup folder)
and this will map letter to the share, not to it's subfolders.

Thanks for the help, but I need to ask one more question: How would I
then allow a user to access their own home directory and not see
anyone else's home directory folder located in that same share?
Thanks again for your help!
