- Can I legally use my Win 95 cdrom for install (setup old computer) if I used it in upgd path for present computer
- Posted by Randyman on August 26th, 2003
I want to run some legacy old scanners and maybe get on the net with by
setting up with older MB for another system. I have continually upgraded my
Windows versions to the point where I am running 2 separately owned Win XP
home ver. in my newly built Pent.4 system and one in an Athlon XP system I
own two Win XP systems with 2 separate win upgraded paths(one initially
upgraded from Win 3.1). I've got lots of old scanners, sound cards,
modems, etc. which do not work in any of my Win XP systems. Some of that
old software was nice, but I like my NTFS formatted XP systems (not FAT for
me - with Win XP). I would like to use maybe a Win 3.1, Win 95 upgd, and
maybe even a Win 98 upgrade system in separate computers in my house. What
can I legally do (what will MS let me do -- I own this stuff --esp. if I
want internet connections).
Thanks a heap -- Sincerely------> Randyman

I am no lawyer, but as I read those end-user agreements, you can reuse
an older Windows. The agreement says you can use Windows on one
machine. Since you have upgraded, the older Windows is no longer on
your active machines.

You're probably correct Bill, and I thank you. I may further verify your
opinion; so, please don't be insulted if you see a similar post to other Win
newsgroups. I want 100% compliance with the law - that's all. Thanks!
Sincerely -- Randyman
