- Error Starting Program & Explorer caused an Invaled Page Fault
- Posted by Marysue on November 12th, 2003
I am hoping someone can help me with my two error messages. I start my computer (IBM with win95), it gives one beep, continues to load and then on the screen there are two messages, and that is as far as it goes. It does not get to the desk-top
The messages
1- Error Starting Program - A required .DLL file, C\Windows\System\MSVCRT.DLL, was not found
2-Explorer caused an invalid page fault in Module Explorer.exe at 0157:0040254

I wonder if this is a real serious problem and my computer needs to be taken to a computer repair service. Or can someone help me. My concern is that I have large genealogy files that I sure do not want to lose.

I read the two articles you suggested. Article
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302756 is for Windows
98, I believe. I have Windows 95. Will this apply to me?
Sorry so long in a reply, but have to use someone's
computer to get online.
Thanks

Sorry....Win95 doesn't come with the file. It is installed by Internet Explorer 4x and higher, and also by Microsoft Office. You would have to reinstall your version Internet Explorer, or if you have Office installed, do a repair install.
OR
Go here: DrDevice's DLL Search Engine:
http://www.drd.dyndns.org/search.html
and click the "DLL Search" link, then search for msvcrt, and download the one that is 290,869 kb in size, for Windows ME...that will be the newest for use on a win9x machine...it is the one I have with IE5.5 SP2. Put it in the Windows\System folder.
