hello

first of all, sry for my drop like this and sry for my english..

I am getting nuts today, and I would like to kill someone :s
I am really pissed off...

I just reinstalled for the 3rd time Windows98SE on a 40GB HDD...
the file system is FAT32 of course...
and here goes the problem... whenever I want to copy from a cd to hdd
big files I receive System error 1026... I went through half of google
web and group results today and there r no answers...
I tried deleting that windows tmp folder and making a new one (in C:\)
aswell editing the autoexec.bat file... and the s*it wont work!!!!!
I always and always get the 1026 error.... the only thing I can
imagine, is that my windows temporary folder need size, and I dont
have a minimal idea how to enlarge it....
can someone plz help me with this issue??? I am really crazy with it..
btw, I also tried installing the latest unofficial 98se patch, but it
didnt work...
the rest of pc: epox 3vba+, celly 500mhz and a cd burner... btw, disk
has only one partition..

If there is no data on the drive you need to keep...
format the whole drive and start over fresh

the only other thing I can think of for this weirdness is timing problems on
the motherboard..

CPU and/or RAM running a little too fast.... (I had RAM speed timings set
too fast and had a very similar problem with copying files)

Does the error message appear with any disk, or a just a particular one?
Do some big files copy okay, while others of about the same size (or larger) don't?

A couple of suggestions from the Web:

Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
Double-click on the System icon
Click on the Performance tab
Does it say MS-DOS Compatibility Mode anywhere?
If not, it should say 'Your system is configured for optimal performance.'

Is there a virus scanner running? Try turning it off first.
