Installation of software - driver error messages
Posted by Brian on October 25th, 2003

I have just installed MS Office 97 Professional Edition on
my Windows 95 laptop. Towards the end of the installation
it gave me this error message -

- The ODBC resource DLL (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ODBCINT.DLL) is
a different version than the ODBC setup dll
(C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ODBCCP32.DLL). You need to reinstall
the ODBC components to ensure proper operation. Press OK
to proceed, Cancel to abort.

After pressing Cancel several times the machine told me
that Office had been installed OK and gave another
message -

- The ODBC installer DLL (ODBCCP32.DLL) in not installed
on this system.

However, version 03.00.2301 of ODBCCP32.DLL is, in fact,
present on the hard disk - 93,968 bytes, created and
modified Nov 21, 1996. The version on the Office 97 disk
is also 03.00.2301, 93,968 bytes, created and modified Nov
21, 1996.

On the other hand, the version of ODBCINT.DLL on the hard
disk is 3.510.3002.13, 68,808 bytes, created Sept 26,
2003, modified June 22, 1998; on the Office 97 disk is
version 03.00.2301, 63,488 bytes, created and modified Nov
21, 1996.

Can someone please tell me what I need to do to ensure
proper operation?

Many thanks,
Brian

One other thing....
since this is Win95 you are using, it may be best to scroll through the MDAC versions listed at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...dataaccess.asp
and install a slightly earlier version than the "latest"....something like version 2.5 or 2.6 may be best for Win95. Choose a lower version, install, reboot, and see if it fixes the error. if not, get the next version number up.

Dear Glen,

Many thanks for your answer to my problem.

I’m sorry to trouble you again, but I wonder if you would
be good enough to tell me which, if any, of the following
I should download and install from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?
url=/downloads/list/dataaccess.asp - they are the only
references on that page to v 2.5. Is each of them complete
in itself or does the previous version have to be present
on the machine before you can install the next one? ------

MDAC 2.5 Service Pack 3
The Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5 SP3 is the same
version of the MDAC components installed by Windows 2000
Service Pack 3.
MDAC 2.5 SP3 Release manifest

MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) 2.5 Update:

The Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5 SP2 is the same
version of the MDAC components installed by Windows 2000
Service Pack 2.

version of the MDAC components installed by Windows 2000
SP 1.

Thanks once again,

Brian

They are all complete versions....Service packs are cumulative; each new service pack contains all of the fixes that are included in previous service packs, as well as any new fixes. You do not need to install a previous service pack before you install the latest one. For example, you do not need to install MDAC 2.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1) before you install MDAC 2.5 SP2

If you are going with MDAC 2.5, then get SP3.
