KEYBOARD LOCKED ERROR MESSAGE
Posted by MIKE on October 19th, 2003

HELP MY WIN95 COMPUTER WONT START UP I GET CONFLICT I/O PORT ; 2F8
KEYBOARD ERROR KEYBOARD LOCKED OUT OR NO KEYBOARD PRESENT
UNLOCK THE KEY
IS THERE A SOLUTION TO FIX THIS. I HAVE TRIED REPLACING THE KEYBOARD, AND I GET THE SAME MESSAGE.
IS IT A VIRUS RESULT, OR A HARDWARE PROBLEM. THE TECH SUPPORT SITES REFER TO STARTING WINDOWS IN SAFE MODE BUT I DON'T EVEN GET TO THE STARTING WINDOWS PROMPT.

Please don't SHOUT, it hurts the eyes.

As you have guessed, the messages are not associated with Windows.

Check the position of the keyswitch on the PC front panel and make sure it
hasn't moved to the locked position. Check the connection between the front
panel keyswitch and the motherboard and make sure it hasn't fallen off.

Access BIOS setup and check the devices that are using 2F8 - for instance,
it is often not possible to have USB and COM2 enabled at the same time.

Since you are getting messages about two different problems the chance is
that the BIOS settings have become corrupted, perhaps as a result of the
battery failing or a virus. You should have an option in BIOS setup to reset
to defaults.
