Most current 95 and how to get there???
Posted by Toney on May 24th, 2004

Hi all

I have a friend who is running what looks like the
original Win95 OS without any updates. What updates does
he need to get his version of 95 to the latest version?

Thanks

Toney

Open Control Panel - System - General and check the version number.

If it reads 4.00.950 then you have the original release Windows 95 and
you need to download and install Service Pack 1 and the other updates
on the web site that Philo gave you.

If it reads 4.00.950a then it already has the Service Pack 1 updates
installed but may need at least some of the others.

If it reads 4.00.950B or 4.00.950C then you have the ORS2 (or 2.1. or
2.5) verision of Windows 95 which is completely different from the
original release. Most importantly it does not repeat *does not* need
the Service Pack 1 updates and installing can cause serious problems.
Other updates will be needed, however.

There is no way to update an original release (4.00.950 or 4.00.950a)
version of Windows 95 to the OSR2 (4.00.950B or 4.00.950C) version.
You would have to purchase the newer version and then install it.

Good luck
