Win95B is *not* an update...
however you might be able to find it on ebay for a pretty low price.

If you are doing this for USB support...don't bother...
it is essentially non-existant...You should use win98se

My apologies for butting in, but philo's reply prompted a question....

Philo, my Device Manager shows a "?" next to Universal Serial Bus.
Apparently, the PC cannot find the correct USB driver. I'm assuming that
this is the driver that would make my USB ports work. But you're suggesting
that USB on Win95 is "non-existent" -- and you're not the first one I've
heard this from. Should I forget about hunting for the driver(s)? I don't
need the USB port at this time, anyway. Thanks.

Joe

early versions of win95 did not support usb ...win95B has support for usb
but is not all that stable (very device dependant)

after installing win95B you had to run usbsupp.exe from the CD...

my advice would be too look for the upgrade CD to go too win98se (ebay?)

That's correct...
believe me...I tried everything I could to get USB working with win95 and
eventually upgraded to win98se

Yes, if you ever do need USB you should be able to find win98se on eaby...
maybe $50 or so

Thanks, all. You've answered my question. I'll just leave the 95 machine as
the able backup it's been and move on to more important things. BTW, I do
have 95B -- came preinstalled on the PC.

Regards, Joe.

It's generally not recommended, but there are a few different procedures on
http://powerslave.users.50megs.com/winups.htm. I've tried most of them, and
they work to varying degrees.

After usbsupp.exe you reboot and run usbupd2.exe (then reboot again). Though
I'm sure it is device-dependent, I have no problem with my VIA chipset and
their 4-in-1 drivers (seems best to update this after installing the usb
files).
