Upgrading to Windows 98 2nd edition.
Posted by Martin V O on October 20th, 2003

I bought my older computer with 95 installed. Just after
my purchase Windows 98 came out and I received a Windows
98 upgrade from Microsoft. I have never been satisfied
with this upgrade and would like to install Windows 98 2nd
addition. How do I proceed?
Does anyone know how to install Windows 98 2nd Edition in
the best possible way?
Thank you.

The best way is probably to wipe the disk clean and start afresh - that
ensures you don't carry over any problems from the previous installation.
Apart from that, following the tips and instructions in the SETUP.TXT file
on the CD covers most aspects. Also, see here:

You have to buy a copy of Windows 98 SE.

BTW, the difference between the two is pretty tiny if you already have a
fully-patched Win98 system. In fact, a fully patched Win98 Original Flavour
system today is going to be far more up-to-date than a clean install of
Win98 SE in 1999, because you have four more years of updates to install.

I suspect, though, that you have more questions you haven't mentioned. Feel
free to post back with any further specific questions.

double click on the cd-rom icon and find the SETUP
program. Double click on it and the installation will
start. Follow the instructions from here onwards.
