Dear Helpful Individual,

Still a novice at age 66 with my first computer and still Windows95.
I'm getting an error message stating "URLMON.DLL" has caused an error. As I
don't know what "URLMON.DLL is, I went into a search engine and entered
"URLMON.DLL" hoping it would tell me. It didn't. However, it showed me
there is a diagnostic tool..."PcDocRx OnCall" available for DLL problems.
Two questions:
1) What may be causing the error message regarding "URLMON.DLL?
2) Would you suggest it would be safe to use the above mentioned diagnostic
tool?

This is a component of Internet Explorer. What version of the IE browser are
you running? (If you don't know, go to http://aumha.org/mydetail.htm and
copy off the screen the information that it gives about your computer, and
paste the information into your response here.)

Usually a repair reinstall of IE solves this. I'll wait for your response on
version before going into details.

The URLMON.dll file is normally installed with Windows, but can be
removed if Internet Explorer is removed. Re-installing the browser can
bring the file back.

My suggestion would be to update to, or reinstall, Internet Explorer
to 5.5 with service pack 2 (sp2). It's the latest Internet Explorer
for Windows 95.

Microsoft doesn't have it for download anymore but evolt.org does,
although it wouldn't install for me after wasting hours getting it do
download!

Against my better judgment I checked with on-disk.com as a Microsoft
guru in this news group recommended and got the full install version
of Internet Explorer 5.5 SP (service pack 2). To my surprise it
installed perfectly and is running great on both Windows ME and

Update your anti-virus app and then run a full-system virus scan.

If you find WebSearch in Control Panel> Add\Remove Programs, select and uninstall it.

And additionally, you're running Hotbar. Get rid of it! Go to the "Fighting
Parasite" link in my signature and do the "Quick Fix" steps at the bottom of
the page. This is important! HotBar and WebSearch are causing your
problems - and they may have brought their friends!
