I have a boot disk with a cd rom driver. I'm trying to restore windows. Can I
somehow load the file with a cd rom driver to my computer so that when I run
my restore disk it will work??.

Try creating a new boot disk.

type C: and hit enter to get to the boot drive...
D: enter will get to the Ramdrive
and E: enter should be your Cdrom

ok I typed C: and it said "Invalid drive Spec". Then I type D: and it said
"Invalid drive spec" then I typed E: and it said "Invalid Drive spec". The
boot disk I used said " Drive R:= Driver Banana unit 0 " . So I type it in
also butThen It just goes right back to the A: promt.

If you have a Windows 95 CD, start the computer with the
boot disk, insert the CD, type "R:\win95\setup" and press
"Enter". If you have a restore disk, type "dir /p R:\" and
repost with the contents of the CD.

Try typing "R:\DOSMENU\DOSRUN" at the command prompt.
If that doesn't work, try "R:\DOSMENU\RESTORE".

OK I tried it. I got a response from R:\dosmenu\dosrun then the screen went
black with just the cursor blinking and the floppy drive light stayed on. The
CD rom did't work. Nothing else. Well I think if i can just get the right
string of parameters i can get it to install windows. But I'm not very good
at guessing so I'll just wait for your next move. Thanks.

If you still have the original restore floppy, try inserting it before typing the
"R:\DOSMENU\DOSRUN" command. If that doesn't work, try
"R:\DOSMENU\RESTORE.BAT".

ok I tried it and here's what happened: I put the original floppy restore
disk in after i booted up with the boot disk. I typed in R:\dosmenu\dosrun
and the cd rom kicked in and lights up motor runs but it's just a black
screen blank with the cursor light blinking. The cd rom light stayed on but
the motor stopped. Then I typed R:\dosmenu\restore.bat and got a warning
screen that said reformatting hard drive and windows installation will take
about an hour do i want to proceed? (Y/N)?
I typed Yes but got an error message "bad command or file name" Then the
prompt retuned to R:\. I thought for a moment it was going to restore,
darn, maybe something else will work? Got anymore ideas? I'm all ears. Thanks
again for all your help.

We're all guessing a bit here (at least I am) because your restore procedure
seems to be slightly different than normal, but try this.
Boot with your new boot floppy and do
DIR R:
and press enter to confirm the CD drive is accessible. Then replace the new
boot floppy with the restore floppy, and do
AUTOEXEC
and press enter.
If that doesn't work, do
TYPE AUTOEXEC.BAT
and press enter and copy and post the lines that get displayed

normally you'd just type R:\setup
where R is the cdrom drive not R:\win95\setup

Hey I feel lucky I got some guys willing to help me out. Thanks a lot!
Ok I did the procedure like you said and here's the results. The Master CD
is in CD ROM. Installed the original floppy restore disk after booting and
then typed "autoexec". Computer was searching for cd rom, found cd rom LTN
242, loading drivers...... master CD found.... then heard a small beep and
the screen went blank, no cursor. I press a key and error message said
"Unable to create error log", but screen stayed blank when I let off the key.
Then I did the same thing again but typed in "Type Autoexec.bat" The screen
went flying by so fast I couldn't read anything, then it stopped and I wrote
down what was left on the screen:
ECHO note: You must leave the restore diskette and master CD in your
computer. Pause>Nul Reboot ( I might add The disk and cd never left the
computer}
rvsize
ECHO your hard drive appears too small. If you know your drive is at least
one gigabyte, the drive may be defective or the cables may be loose. GOTO END
:HD_ERROR
ECHO Unable to prepare the hard drive. Your systems hard drive may be
defective or the cables may be loose. Please contact Tech Support. Press any
key to quit. GOTO END
:END
If %reboot /..==1. Reboot
Set CDDRV=
CD\
A:
A:\>
Hope that is not bad news. I'll wait to hear from you.
