Windows Chicago
Posted by genedefcon2000 on November 16th, 2006

Hello,

Today I was cleaning my atic, and I came across one of my old computers.
Because of my curious self, I retrived the monitor, mouse, and keyboard for
it, and then turned on the computer. I was VERY surprised to see the boot
splash screem say "Windows Chicago" copyright 1994. I then remembered that I
beta tested the "new" version of Windows, with the very experimental "Start"
menu.
Can I copy the files from the old Chicago pc, and use Chicago as a Virtual
Machine in VMware Player? Is it against the EULA to do that?

Thanks

I really don't think the bigwigs at Microsoft would be bothered with
what you want to do. In the grand scheme of things this is rather
trivial for Microsoft.

So i can install a new copy from off the net, and run that version in VMware
Player?

If I try to install Windows Chicago in the VM Player, won't it need MS-DOS?

As far as I know VMWare can run DOS so it should run Chicago. Mabe
check http://www.vmware.com/ for more information

Where would I get MS-DOS? I never bought it. I can't go back in time to
2000, and get MS-DOS. I tried Free-Dos. It wouldn't work. Would there be a
"beta" version of MS-DOS that I can get?

But why would you need DOS? WMware would be installed on your working
Windows computer and Chicago would be installed on that computer under
VM. Chicago wouldn't need anything else, it was an operating system on
its own (Windows 95 beta). It wouldn't be any different than running
Windows 95 on your Windows XP VMWare setup, at least not that I would think.

A new copy of what? I don't think Chicago exists anywhere on the

But Win95 came with DOS. I can't imagine that Chicago didn't.
