- WinXP Suddenly Playing Win95 Start-Up Jingle!!
- Posted by Prisoner at War on April 28th, 2008
Hey, anyone know what happened here??
After I installed MS Office97 Small Business Edition the other day, my
WinXP SP2 laptop has been booting up with the Win95 -- that's **95**
-- jingle instead of the usual WinXP one!
How did that happen???
And is this something I can customize??
Pretty cool, but it'd be even better if I could define what audio gets
played (or not at all, even!)....
Anyone know??
TIA!!

Kewl!! Thanks!!!
Now, any idea how the sound got changed in the first place? I wonder
why installing Office97 SBE caused the OS to do that....

I suspect that the Office install did it. As you can see, you can change
it if you like.

hello tia, most likely office 97 has something that makes your
operating system play the 95 startup jingle, if you uninstall office
does it switch back.
also you should consider switching to ubuntu 8.04. it is the best.

I hear that you can run Windows on Ubuntu using a VM. Have you tried
this? If so how well did it work?

"TIA" means "thanks in advance". Chances are it's not the OP's name.
Office 97 isn't supposed to change the startup sound -- in theory.
It's never done it to me, and I still use it on some machines.
Yeah, that's the best solution.
Problem: Startup sound has been changed.
Solution: Change to a different operating system.
Can you spot the flaw in your logic?

You look like why the riot started.

Many, many people do this. It works just fine, assuming your machine
is at least moderately recent. (Older machines will run s-l-o-o-o-w.)
However, I'd use something besides Ubuntu, but that's just a "personal
preference" thing. (Slackware rocks. Use it.)
