98SE with PestPatrol

I just wanted opinion on the option of enabling me to send the log data to
PestPatrol. Does this open your computer to any extra danger or is it
important in the fight against spyware?

I wouldn't bother except if it's really out of the ordinary. I've yet to see
anything that I found that worthy or different. If it were unusual it might
help in building a profile of a pest. I don't think it will open you up to
PP and thereby be susceptible to any violations or worries.

Now for the big shocker Artwilder; A *lot* of people don't like PP; might go
so far as to say they hate it. Why? They will assert (which is true to a
certain degree) that:
1) It false flags a lot.
2) It's slow in it's scanning process.
3) They hate the GUI.
4) It doesn't update definitions often enough.
5) That you must purchase it for a fully operational non-crippleware
program.
6) one may obtain others for free which do not have those limitations.

My Opinion:
1) I've had it for a long time, and it was a "freebie" when I bought a full
fledged Pro version of ZA FW.
2) It does false flag a bit, but does also detect things which are valid
detections of pests that others do not.
I've tested it side by side with the "Big Two", and that's a fact. I
don't just delete stuff without looking, and cross referencing.
3) Sometimes there's a lot of updating, several times in a week, and
sometimes not.
4) In a way, it's an Admin tool. Detects hacking, key generating, and that
kind of program and threat.
5) It's in house references and in program access for those references for
pests, Trojans, and the like is IMO, unmatched. Many will use Google and
refer to what it can access from right inside the program.
6) Yeah the interface is a little anachronistic, and it will not hold a
custom colored interface when closed. Big deal.
7) Scan is no slower than Ad-Aware (which is ungodly slow) if you don't
limit what it is scanning.

Overall, I use it quite a bit; I kind of like it, and it is not a program I
would consider removing from within my arsenal of stuff. Just my opinion.

Thanks, Luckystrike! You certainly do your research. Do you know how
Gary Terhune is doing and can you two make amends, please.

As always ...you're welcome.

I can do what I do with what I know. That's a serious limitation, since I
don't know all that much, but there you have it.

Don't know, and I'd probably be the last to know at this point. I'm sure
Gary would rather not. But thanks for being a person with such concerns, and
being such as you are.
