Hi,
I downloaded and extracted the zipped Refile to the ad-aware folder.
However, when I check for web updates before scanning, the system is telling
me there's a new update but its date is May, 2003- what to do please?
Thanks,
JDW

You downloaded the incorrect update for your current Ad-Aware program
version.

Uninstall Ad-Aware via Add/Remove Programs. Go to
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download to download/install a new and
current program version. Seek updates after the install and then scan.

I have build 160; should I uninstall it and get the new one?

Thanks,

Yes. Ad-Aware v6.181 is the most current build.

You should know what an echo sounds like, Bear, living in a cave as your
species do!

I'm sure both of you have seen my rants vis-a-vis AdAware updating its
software, while NOT making it obvious to users of older software that their
particular version is no longer supported. This user's story is why.

Once superseded, an older version of AdAware should fail when trying to
update the library, and give the possibility of a newer version as the
reason for said failure, *not* just show no updates available, as is the
situation with pre 6.181 software.

You should tell Lavasoft that, not rant on about it on this forum.

I think it is very appropriate for Sandi to bring it up in the groups as a
warning to AdAware users. You can also bet that Lavasoft has been made aware of
the situation. The fact that they have persisted in this manner, is proof enough
that it has to be made very public in order to get people complaining to
Lavasoft.

I have complained about it in various forums, public and private, and have
had a warning on my web site for a long time.

While we're playing "I think ..." :-)

I think that since it happened once, eight months ago, and hasn't happened
since, aren't we carrying the moral indignation bit just a little too far
.... :-)

About a month or so ago I was talking to a lady who was wondering why there were
no updates coming in for her 5.83. That's twice that I know of where they have
not notified users that they had to update the engine in order to get the proper
updates. When a person goes to the update site and there engine is no longer
supported they should be given a message to that effect and an offer to redirect
them to the page for the upgrade.
