adding memory?
Posted by melissa on December 12th, 2003

how does one go about adding memory from an old tower to a
new one? is it possible without messing up my new tower?
if so, any help with the process would be greatly
appreciated.

Depending on how "old" the "old tower" and how "new" the "new tower" is, the
memory modules from one may not work in the other. I'd suggest checking
with your system manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer for the correct
type of memory to install in your system.

It's very unlikely that the old RAM will work in the new tower, especially if
you intend to add to the RAM already in the new tower.

Not only are motherboards fairly persnickety about what make & model RAM they
will take, when you have more than one stick, they should be matched--otherwise,
the likelihood of achieving faultless performance goes way, *way* down.

You can get some fair ideas about what will and will not work for your new board
by checking it out at www.crucial.com

To add, If I believe correctly, and the newer towers motherboard utilizes dual
channel slots, you must install a matched set, a single stick will not work.
