- Cannot find win.com, unable to load windows
- Posted by Rodney Rowell on October 1st, 2003
I cannot get windows 98 SE to load on my PC. I tried
extracting a new file (win.cnf) from the cabs folder, etc.
It still does not work. When I reboot, I get the same
error message. I checked the windows directory. The file
is there. I tried deleting it and then renaming the .cnf
to win.com. Same result. Ready to install Windows XP but
afraid that might not work too! Any tips, hints would be
greatly appreciated.

Start simply - rename Config.sys to Config.bak, rename Autoexec.bat to
Autoexec.bak - both will be found on the C: drive. Reboot. Does Windows
start up then?
