- Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module MS.DLL at 017F: 61C05319
- Posted by Ted on February 20th, 2004
I was surfing the net, and suddenly a msg appeared related
to Norton Antivirus and something about disabling a
script...The computer just went crazy constantly flashing
this msg box...I could do nothing except turn off the
power. When I restarted, as soon as windows starts I get a
msg that Explorer performed an illegal operation and will
be shut down. When I click on details I see that invalid
page fault message "Explorer caused an invalid page fault
in module MS.DLL at 017F: 61C05319". I click close and the
msg same msg returns...over and over and over...I can't do
anything. I was able to restart into safe mode. I ran
Norton AV and it found one virus 'msdownloader.cache'
which it put into quarantine. I rebooted back into normal
mode but the same explorer page fault exists. HELP!

Have you looked on Symantec's site for the virus details?
You don't seem to have got rid of it if you still have MS.DLL

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Symantec names it, Downloader.MSCache.

You may have trouble accessing some of these sites due to a DoS attack being thrust upon them. If this is the case check MajorGeeks.com first, if still no go, post back and we may be able to help in getting them to you.
Download/run Cool Web Shredder from:

Then download/install/run Ad-Aware to detect/rid of any other parasites/spyware that may be installed. It can be obtained free from:

After installing Ad-Aware, open it and click on the ref update to get the latest up-to-date ref file, then run Ad-Aware and delete everything it finds.
And/or download/install/run:

Do not remove anything with it until you get advice on what to remove, HJThis will list many apps that are needed along with the bad ones. Read the quick start here on how to create a log file that can be copied/pasted into a forum that can provide assistance on removal of unwanted pests.
