rule out the possibility of a virus. Boot a floppy or CD based antivirus
program. Many AV programs provide for one of these, if you don't have one or
never made one, try this one:

| I have come across a problem I have not encountered
| before. A customer had her computer lock up while working
| with a document. After not being able to do the ctrl-alt-
| del successfully she turned off the computer. When she
| rebooted the entire contents of the My Documents folder
| were gone. There was one oddly named file 2.2GB in size
| instead. (the file was called something like _a_fcg|._||
| but with some system codes).
|
| I am assuming that that particular file is actually her
| My Documents contents but I can't get access to it or
| recover it. Does anyone know of a way to unlock that file
| to restore it? I get a System Error 1026 whenever I try
| to delete it too.
