Is the original system still on the hard drive, or does this install wait until
it has installed to ask for your Probuct Key (some do, most won't even begin
installing until you produce the code.)
If the previous C:\windows\system.dat file still exists, or RB***.CAB files in
C:\windows\sysbckup, then the ProductKey can be extracted from one of them.
If you can't start the old system any more, boot the machine using a boot disk,
then use the following commands:
dir c:\windows\system.dat
If the date is since you attempted the Restore, then...
dir c:\windows\sysbckup\rb*.cab
If you can restart teh old system, or any of the above files exist and are dated
prior to the REstore attempt, then post back with the details and we'll attempt
to explain how to get the Product Key form inside there. If the disk has been
wiped and no previous files exist, then you'll have to get on to HP for support
possibilities.
Please, also, see www.dts-l.org for information about using a real newsreader to
access these forums. You will find the experience much more satisfying, and much
less frustrating.

same thread.)
