- MISSING FILE?
- Posted by Luis on February 4th, 2004
After running Norton's win doctor, it reports a missing
file "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\nvuDisp.exe" cannot access a
necessary file, newdev.dll." Could someone please advise
as to what this file does & where it can be found for
replacement.
Thank Yoy.

This file is not part of W98 and you probably don't need it. Unless some
other application complains about this file, or you get an error that
relates to missing files, the you can simply treat this as yet another piece
of misleading information from Windoctor. You can download it here:

newdev.dll is part of the New Hardware (or Device) installation procedures.
I don't know what the other file is, though it *appears* to be a device installer. I would first examine that file carefully to determine if it is a legitimate file, and not some malicious component. Besides its odd name, it's in an odd place for such a file. If you determine that it is a legitimate file, and particularly if you can test Add New Hardware by uninstalling something and then running Add New Hardware, and you discover that it malfunctions, then we can deal with restoring a good copy of that file.
