Mouse keeps jumping
Posted by G Bramwell on October 26th, 2003

Hello,

A problem has just shown up on my PC, the cursor keep jumping to the
bottom right corner, I have tried three different mice but the problem
still persists. I am running Windows 98SE 1 gig AMD athlon wit 128 meg
ram and 30 gig hd.

Any ideas as to what could be the cause?

Gerald

Have you run a fully up to date anti virus check? Have you checked for any
spyware/parasites?
Download/install/run Ad-Aware to detect/rid of any other parasites/spyware that may
be installed. It can be obtained free from:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
After installing Ad-Aware, open it and click on the ref update to get the latest
up-to-date ref file, then run Ad-Aware and delete everything it finds.

And/or download/install/run:
Spybot - Search & Destroy:
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?l...&page=download

Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D can not detect some of the newer variants of
parasites/spyware. Download/run Cool Web Shredder from the same link provided below
for HJThis.
If you still have problems, download/run HijackThis from:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/

Then post the logs in a response in this thread or to an appropriate NG here where
they specialize in spyware/hijacker removal:
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/

AVG anti-virus:

I had those symptoms. Not sure what made it go away. Did clean my mouse
an awful lot over that period- ball & rollers. Unplugged an hung mouse
by tail, with machine off. (Shook mouse once or twice.)

This was a time of rapid fire Windows Update activity. Have you taken
them all? There certainly was at least one that was redone, reposted to
the site-- maybe two!

Yow. That's one to remember. Interesting. I don't see any magnets around
here, though, or could there be one in the phone? Anyway, good catch!
Glad it wasn't a virus.
