I have a 20 gig HDD,one partition. Is it possible to create a new partition
at the end of this HDD, for imaging, without overwriting or otherwise
destroying existing files? The HDD is less than half used.

Thanks

Yes but Win98 utilities will not do this.
You have to buy Partition Magic or something similar.

If you don't mind spending a few dollars use partition magic

Though less user friendly...
there is a free utility called fips

I just did it on my first partition of a 40
gig/3partitioned HD.
Gary Terhune helped alot.
BootIt NG has a free shareware if you don't have a
partition program. It is pretty easy to manuver through it.
But first do scan disk and then a defrag on the partition
you are going to split. To be sure all your data is at the
front of the partition.
Hopefully some more knowledgable people, then me;like MVPs,
will get with you on this.

Since Symantec bought out Powerquest, I don't recommend DI any longer. In
my search for something as good / better bang for the buck, I found this:
http://www.acronis.com/products/trueimage/
It also does the partition magic stuff too that you're talking about.

Well, I guess I won't be bothering the NG for awhile.

Thanks PCR

Something similar that's free for download is BING (Boot-It New
Generation). It's way brilliant, but if using it purely for partition
management, you need to Cancel the initial "Install?" prompt.

After that, choose Partition Work and off you go!
