- RAM

I am trying to put more RAM into my system, but as Windows
loads the screen turns strange colors and tries to
restart. It only happens when I have 1 gb of RAM in the
system and I have tried the system.ini maxphyscache (or
something like that) fix, but nothing happened. Also,
does Windows 98 support an Athlon 2000 XP? Its 1.67 ghz
and I was a little unsure after the RAM incident.
Thanks.

manufacturer)?
does your chipset support it?
does the BIOS detect it in setup screen?
1 GB?... you adding a 512MB chip?
most MB's that supported win98 maxed out at 256...
unless you built the system or bought one and downgraded
to win98...

I have one 512mb in there and I am trying to add another.
I have 98 SE (not the oem version -it came with just plain
old 98 originally). The ram is the correct type and speed
(and also the same as the older one), but not the same
manufacterer. The chipset does support it and it is
detected by bios.

Once again,
Put the MaxFileCache=512000 under the [vcache] header in
System.ini. It has to be spelled exactly right. Caps don't matter.
If you mispell it, it definately will not work.
Quoted from your first Post:
"I tried the fix with system.ini in the Knowledge
Database for the maxphyscache or something like that. It
was for 1.5 gb, however, and didn't work."
WRONG FIX.
If this doesn't help, post back.
