jpg's are a compressed format so you won't be able to reduce them
unless you want to reduce the resolution or crop them
you should be able to email about 1 meg. worth
so depending on size you may want to send several emails

Hi Philo,
thanks for your reply and okidoki!
each file is around 600 KB and I sent about 1 in each email... I will sent
the remaining ones 1 by 1.
Her provider often acts up, so it might have been a combination of things
why here email got frozen time after time today.
Best regards,
Ellen

JPG is the ideal format for e-mailing images, because you can choose the
amount of compression that you want, thus controlling the file size, without
needing to crop the image or change the resolution.
Use your graphics program to create copies of these images for mailing.
Select a compression level that gives you the best compromise between image
quality and file size. Typically, you will find that image quality is
maintained at a very acceptable level until some point where it suddenly
starts to fall off dramatically, but very often a JPG of 60Kb is
indistinguishable from one of several hundred KB. Note that this applies to
viewing - printing an image requires much more detail, and you may notice a
difference at these higher levels of compression if your friend intends to
print the images. If that is the case, you could send the originals on CD.
Even if you can get around server restrictions you are still tying up your
friends machine as they download files that are probably much larger than
they actually need to be.
