infortunately am not using a via chip, any other ideas?
also would really like to know what it is for and does?

I don't know. I have read that Norton is not Gospel in these matters.

Please keep all related posts in the same thread. This way others can follow on what any problem may be and what has been suggested.
It can be for an ATI video adapter/chip as well, and possibly others. I would suggest not using Norton, it often comes up with missing or corrupted files when in actually they are not.
If all is running well and there are no problems, don't break what's not broken.
