Windows 98 SE Desktop Computer Will Not Boot Up
Posted by Bob Jones on February 15th, 2004

A friend's PC will not boot up. Instead, she is getting a message: "Bad
command or file name. VMM32.VXD is required to run windows. If this file
is not in your path, you may need to reinstall windows."

I am going to visit her in a day or two to try to fix this situation In
the meantime, I would appreciate any suggestions. I have never experienced
this kind of situation before. What should I try, short of reinstalling
windows? (I don't even know how to reinstall windows) I have to assume
that I will be able to boot up to Safe Mode or at least to DOS. I believe
the Windows 98 installation was done by the vendor.

Thanks in advance. ------------------------Bob Jones

Run a Applications Recovery, if it does not fix it, run a
Full System Recovery, it will erase everything saved and
installed in your hardrive since originall installation,
you'll have to re-install all programs that did not come
with your system. Use your Manufacture's website for
instruction on how to perform Recovery in your PC.
