- Windows Explorer Lost Columns in Detail View
- Posted by OC Cupant on November 1st, 2003
I'm running win98se and win explorer developed a problem
yesterday.
In the detail view I get only 1 column(with no header/label)
in the right pane, and no files are listed. However in the bottom
left corner of the window it does list the number of files in the
folder. All other views seem unaffected.
Anyone have an idea of what happened and how to fix this?
TIA

Use the same fix as the blank details view.
Click in the blank right-hand pane.
Press the Ctrl key and the + key
(only the + key on the numeric keypad)

Thank you, Alan.
This worked and was incredibly simple. I was having horrible
visions of having to do a reinstall.
Any idea on how I managed to mess it up in the first place? I'd
like to know so I can avoid it in the future.
Thanks again.

It is unlikely that it was your fault. A power fluctuation while
Explorer is refreshing can create that state.
Just remember Ctrl+ in case it happens again. You can use that key
sequence any time to make the columns in detail view fit the data. Try
it.
