clean install Win98se on Fujitsu 755tx laptop
Posted by Marlin on September 19th, 2003

I am not an computer guru. I have been trying for
several days to do a clean install of 98se from a startup
boot disc and cdrom. After the HDD cleanup there is
an "a" prompt. With both the floppy drive and cdrom
installed I can't get it to load the cd rom. The cd was
bought for 65$ on the internet and it was listed as an OEM
Full Product. I get an invalid disk message but am not
sure its looking at the cdrom drive. It sounds from the
noise from the floppy that its looking at the floppy..I
have returned the disc to Globe systems for a replacement.
Any idea what I am doing wrong. Someone told me to type
D: at the prompt to get it to look at the drive but it
doesn't recognize the command. Thanks Marlin

Marlin
If the CDROM was installed correctly by the boot diskette, then the
"invalid system disk " msg would be referring to your HDD. Did you
fdisk and format the C: partition ?.

Do both of the drives work at the same time or are they swappable? If
swappable, do you have to reboot when you change drives so it is
recognized? What are the exact error messages you receive? Are you
using a W98 CD that was provided with the laptop? We need this
information because laptops are often more difficult to install systems
on then a desktop is.
