I have a IBM 300PL Duracom Pentium Pro(r) 64.0 MB ram with win 95 oem
installed. I have a win 98 SE CD but it says for distribution with new PC
only. I do have Book and product key but want to make sure I can do this and
do it right. Therefore Im here where I know you guys can tell me the right
way to do this.

First off...if you installed IE5 or 5.5 uninstall it...

Unless you have the upgrade version of win98
you will have to rename win.com in your windows folder (to win.old
for example)
then start the setup by using a cd support boot floppy

*also note* : You must specify that windows be installed back in your
original folder
(usually C:\windows ) watch carefully when the installer asks you where
you want to install windows

That's correct...
you *cannot* boot to windows when you rename win.com

you *must* get a cd support boot floppy and install win98 from dos

the alternative would be to rename win.old back to win.com

boot to windows...then copy the win98 folder to your harddrive...

rename win.com back to win.old

then restart in dos and start your win98 setup from within the win98 folder

just be sure to reinstall back in your original windows folder...
do not go with the default of windows.000
